Description Shinto Wheel Shrine (Danjiri)
"Jigaruma" or ornamented wheel shrine built entirely of natural color Keyaki wood that exemplifies the most improved type of temple architecture. he was commissioned by Mr. Sugano, or Osaka, one of Japan's wealthiest men, and the architect and sculptor, Mr. Genzo Komatsu received the job. When he died in 1800, his son, Gensuke, took over and finished the shrine in 1805. Gallery notes.
