Title Victrola
Object ID CVHM-2002.207
Description This Victrola is an excellent example of the record-players available to the American public in the 1920s. This particular player was sold at Meekins, Packard & Wheat Department Store, then in downtown Springfield. Meekins, Packard & Wheat, founded in 1874, thrived for many decades and was one of three large department stores in the downtown section of the city. But during the years of the Great Depression in the 1930s customers were unable to afford the high-end luxury goods that the store was known for, and this once great department store was forced to close in 1936.
