This collection consists of diaries, with dates ranging from 1855 to 1910. Most diaries have leather covers and most have inscriptions in them: "A Christmas Gift from Allie." All have William Atkins's address in them: address changes from West Cummington to Northampton, MA. Most entries in diaries are concerned with the local weather and what Atkins did at work -- he was a wood-turner for a while, making broom and brush handles; he later became a printer. Atkins was born 1 Oct 1836, and married 1 Oct 1862. |
