Scope & Content |
Letters address directly to Daniel B.Wesson. Correspondence includes both personal and business letters and there are many invoices included in this correspondence. Likewise, Wesson's financial invoices include correspondence. These letters provide insight into many aspects of life during this period and into Daniel B. Wesson as a person. There are letters about investing both in banking and in business, as well as many solicitations from individuals looking for investors. Many letters are about outfitting and maintaining a wealthy household. Beginning in 1882, many letters relate to renovating and building the property Wesson bought in Northboro. This correspondence also includes letters from former employees, people looking for work, and letters of recommendation, for both domestic work and employment at Smith and Wesson. These letters give insight into conditions of work, relationships among employees and supervisors, and other aspects of employment at the turn of the century. Letters from1888, organized alphabetically by last name. There are many letters about the Northboro property, including from contractors and manufacturers, and people and organizations from the town. Letters from D. Baird about horses for Wesson. Woodpath Stock Farm would sell Wesson horses for many years. These letters are signed D. Baird, and the handwriting is different from previous years, perhaps a son or other relative took over the business. The letters show a deep knowledge and understanding of the animals. Filed under BA-BL. A Mr. Anderson from the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) wrote Wesson relaying the passing of an animal described as "your old favorite." Filed under A. More letter about anti-Catholicism. Sent from various people and organizations, but none from James Mulloy (see 1886). |
