The First Church of Longmeadow Collection consists of three series: Series 01 -- Administration This series of the collection contains material regarding the organizational and administrative "workings" of the church, The material dates from 1764 to 1990. The bulk of the documents date from the 20th century with most of that material dating from 1945-1975. The series consists of 38 boxes or 19 linear feet. Series 01 includes annual reports and records regarding membership, church finances, restorations and property, ministers' correspondence & sermons, permanent boards & committees, and special activities and programs. The Board of Trustees records include financial documents, restorations, and property records, and constitutes approximately 25% of the series. The Board of Deacons, Permanent Boards and Committees categories each represent approximately 20% of the series. Because the Church Council is the governing body of the church, it is placed at the beginning of the series. The other categories are listed alphabetically by subject and chronologically within the subject (unless otherwise noted). Series 02 -- Groups This series contains material generated by various groups that are service or social in nature and are not directly involved in the administrative functions of the church. The material dates from 1880 to 1991. The series comprises 11 boxes or 6 linear feet and includes the minutes, financial and program records of the May Breakfast Association, various women's groups and other groups. Approximately 55% of the series consists of the administrative records of the various women's groups. The financial records, lists and assignments to duties of the long-standing May Breakfast Society, which organizes a May Breakfast and a Harvest Supper, constitutes 27% of the series. Other groups include the Stephen WIlliams Club, Tandem Club and several newlywed clubs. Series 03 -- Artifacts, Photographs and Books This series contains artifacts, photoqraphs, other images, and books. The series consists of a total of 51 boxes and includes some artifacts: 2 framed items, 2 flags, and several miscellaneous items. The photographs comprise 6 linear feet. The part of the series is sub-divided into three categories; people, buildings, and objects. The people sub-category includes people in activities (Choir, Sunday School and Celebrations) and accounts for 60% of the photo collection. Buildings, including views of the Church and Longmeadow comprise 30% of the photographs. The remaining 10% includes photographs of objects (silver, pewter and other items of value or historic interest). |
