Scope & Content |
Blueprints from the office of Springfield builder George Arthur Angers (1875-1944). The blueprints appear to date from 1910-1925. During this time, Angers was working as an independent contractor. However, certain plans have the names of other family members, such as Joseph Angers and E. L. Labine, who were involved in the contracting and construction industry. The collection is separated into 18 boxes containing 301 folders. The first few boxes contain the plans for which the name of the architect or builder is given. The list of architects and builders includes: George Angers, Joseph Angers, A. A. and S. T. Ball, William H. Dexter, Frank L. Dunlap, Huestis and Huestis, Kennedy, G. Herberg Kinsman, Edwin C. Knapp, E. L. Labine, Edward J. Murphy, Noble, A. Albert Ostiguy, M. Thomas Speight, and Clifton C. West. The boxes after that contain the plans which were without named architects or builders. This comprises a large portion of the collection. Some plans most likely could be matched to their architect by analyzing the handwriting, but that task has not been started as of this time. The plans are first arranged by the number of families that would have lived in the house, starting with one, then two, and then multi-family apartment buildings. It is then organized by building size. The house with the smallest first number in terms of area comes first and then the next largest, and so on. The Labine C and D series boxes are an exception to this. For these folders, the plans are listed in numerical order according to a system of plan numbers assigned to them by the architct (C-1, C-2, etc.) rather than by size. For box 8, the plans are listed alphabetically by the architect or contractor's name and then by size, without regard to whether the home is for one or two families. |
